Why I Decided To Stop Blogging - For Now | Lifestyle

Blogging has always been fun. It has shown itself to be a lee-way for expression, demonstration and learning. It has, and always will be, a platform made available to all for of education, exchange of information and knowledge. One of its’ most beautiful aspects is how accommodating it is – one can blog about almost anything, with a varied target audience, with a mixed number of intentions – and I have enjoyed every aspect of it.

I started my blog on Monday, 29 June 2015, with the purpose of not constraining its’ posts to a certain topic or category, but rather to give some insight into all aspects of life, hence the name “A Day In Life”. My blog began to grow slowly, while putting posts together became something I really enjoyed doing in my spare time. I hadn’t written much, and still haven’t as my blog does not consist of too many posts, but when I chose to write, I would put my all into it. I started my blog when I was in first year university, and while this year, second year, I find my timetable and lecture time having decreased in comparison to last year, work load has filled those gaps, leaving me very little time to attribute to the blog. I have also moved into my own flat, and circumstances this year have changed compared to those of last year, thus not only having the aspect of time to limit my focus on the blog, but also resources.

I have thus decided to stop blogging at this stage. Having a blog is a serious commitment, and if I cannot put my all into it for long periods of time like present (I have not blogged since January – unacceptable!), I would rather put it on hold and, if future times allow, perhaps pick up on it once again. I do not see it as fair not to be consistent or reliable when it comes to my posts, especially when I have readers waiting on me. I am currently in the process of setting new goals for myself, including my work, and those are my number 1 priorities at this stage. You will, however, be able to follow these on my social media down below.

I, therefore, would like to thank every single person who has supported me with taking time out of their days to either read a post I have written or to like the blog’s Facebook page and comment on it. Thank you to everyone who shared my posts, to those who encouraged me and to all those who helped me with any tiny aspect of it all. It was a great experience, one that hopefully has not ended forever!

I will still be active on Instagram and Snapchat, both with the username roxanne_appleby. Be sure to follow me on these, as I will still be sharing new adventures and experiences with you through them!

Once again, thank you to everyone who has supported A Day In Life blog at any given time, and making this such a pleasant experience for me. Thank you for reading, and hopefully we will see each other in the near future once more!

With all my love,

Roxanne Appleby x

Elizabeth Arden DAY to DATE Color Collection | Beauty

Just like my previous post on the CALA brushes that I received from my boyfriend for Christmas (see the review here), I also received this beautiful Elizabeth Arden DAY to DATE Color Collection set from him and thought it was way too incredible not to share it with all of you! Unfortunately I haven’t tried any (yes, ANY!) of the products out yet – don’t ask me why, but I have a tendency to keep something I love instead of using it – but I think that a blend of these will create beautiful looks and I will most definitely put them all to use super soon!

Since I am unable to write a review on them when they’re just as new as when I received them on Christmas Day, I decided to put together a quick post showing you what this lovely, elegant set entails. The set came in this dazzling zippered cosmetic case - it was love at first sight! Below are all the contents of the set. I'll be going into more detail of each one further on.
One of the first things that popped out to me is how chic all the products looked in their packaging. Together with the products came a little booklet which guides you through each look - both day and date - with descriptions of each product according to the image provided, which I thought was a lovely idea.
Moving on to each of the products within the set:
For the Eyes:
 1. Beautiful Color Lash Enhancing Mascara and a 3 Piece Brush Set.
2. Two gorgeous Day and Night Palettes.
Day Palette (from left to right): Blonde, Chocolate, Misty Teal-Contour, Innocence, Classic Khaki-Contour, Classic Khaki-Highlighter, Cobblestone, Periwinkle.
Included - Blush in shade Romantic Rose.
Night Palette (from left to right): Party Plum, Blackout, Night Owl, Spotlight, Bone, Pearled Kiss, Tempting Teal, Gold Rush.
Included - Blush in shade Blushing Pink.
3. Two Eye Pencils in shades Smokey Black and Midnight.
For the Lips:
 1. Four outrageous lipsticks in shades Raspberry, Ultra Violet, Iced Grape, Desert Rose.
2. Two Lip Pencils in shades Sugared Kiss and Orchid.
 3. Two Beautiful Color Luminous Lip Gloss in shades Passion Fruit and Precious Petal.
Elizabeth Arden Shimmer Powder as well as a bottle of All Gone Eye and Lip Makeup Remover (I forgot to take pictures of that one, sorry!).

And that is the stunning Elizabeth Arden DAY to DATE Color Collection! If you ever get the chance to get your hands on this set, I hope you love it as much as I do. The products look absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to try them out. Also, if you have created any looks with these specific products or any other EA products share them with me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook (you'll find the links to them on the right hand side of this page below my description!). I hope you enjoyed this post and see you soon!

CALA Brushes | Review

This years’ very first post concerns quality, but at a reduced cost – something that is not always easily found. Welcome back to the blog and a very Happy New Year! Blogging has been extremely scarce for the past couple of months due to the busy daily routine I have found myself in. I will however try to be around more regularly, and hopefully so will you!

A very noticeable aspect of South African cosmetics is its’ quality and price range extremes. The availability of products is prominent, where on one side lies super cheap makeup brushes and on the other, one encounters high-end brands such as MAC, Stigma and Real Techniques. With that, it is relatively challenging to come across brushes that will last, without possessing the weighty price tag we all dread.

For Christmas, I received the CALA Deluxe Travel Brush Set from my boyfriend and I have fallen in love! I am unsure of the exact price of this one but I know, through previous encounters with and reviews read about these brushes, that they are budget-friendly and do not disappoint!
I haven’t washed my brushes yet as they are just a week or two old, but according to what I have been told about them, after a few washes with Johnson’s Baby Shampoo (common product used to wash makeup brushes), they still appear to be as new and fresh as day 1.

One of the very first things that became my favourite about these brushes is how soft and fluffy they are! They feel absolutely incredible on the face and that is an immediate bonus for me! The bristles are also held tightly by the ferrules of the brush, which will further prevent any easy loosening or detaching of these (this may of course eventually happen – all brushes get old at some point!). These brushes are cruelty-free as well as synthetic (great for liquid, cream or powder products).

This set contains: a powder brush, a concealer brush, a shading brush, an eye shadow brush, an eyeliner brush and a brush case. I feel that this a great combination for both beginners and those a little more serious about makeup, as it offers brushes that accommodate the basics of a relatively detailed look.

I love the appearance of the brushes as well as their texture, and the convenience of the case, which allows such easy mobility of these. The case is also relatively compact, being able to easily fit into ones bag without taking up much space.

I certainly believe that these are affordable and great value for money. I am really enjoying this set so far and hope that you do to - if you decide to try these brushes after this post. If you have tried any of these brushes or any other products from CALA, please share your experiences and insight about them in the comments below. Thank you for reading and I will see you soon!

Sweet Christmas | DIY

So the festive season is here, and this could not be anything less than my favourite time of the year! I love December for its festivities, its Summer weather, its joy, its family time (and not to forget, it is indeed my birthday month!).

I initially had some form of a Stocking Filler post in mind, however that changed slightly when I saw this super cute and easy idea on Pinterest. I was browsing through some pins related to Christmas DIY gifts and I came across this one. Anyone who knows me will know that sweets and yummy things make me super happy, and that I will always include these in gifts to friends. Another feature of my gift-giving habits is putting a bunch of small gifts together, creating either a hamper or putting them in a cute little box or jar. With that said, I decided to incorporate yummy sweets into these gifts in a more festive yet super cute way.

I started off by selecting pertinent Christmas entities (a reindeer, a snowman and an elf) and consequently, made them out of cardboard and paper. You want to make sure that these are quite strong and secure since they will be holding the contents.

I then bought sweets relevant to the particular colour scheme I associated with the characters. I also chose clear plastic bags of relevant size.

I then simply placed these in the bags, and stuck the characters on the latter. Super easy and super sweet! Take a closer look at them below.

The Reindeer:
I covered the cardboard in brown paper, stuck on a red nose and popped some chocolate balls in the bag.

The Snowman:

This was probably the easiest of the three to do - simply made some cute eyes, a carrot nose and made a small black and blue hat. I was going to use white mini marshmallows only, however I thought the pop of yellow and light blue looked quite adorable, so I used those too!

The Elf:

I am still deciding as to whether this really looks like an elf (I think it's the hat that creates doubts ahah!). But I still think he looks really adorable. Here I used a red and green colour scheme with some Sour Bears and Jelly Tots.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Despite not following my original idea, this little DIY project can easily be used as inspiration for a stocking filler. This is very practical, as it may also be used as a general idea applied to a particular theme, not only necessarily for Christmas. Let me know what you think and if you do try these out, share them with me on Facebook and Instagram

Nail It with Nailene | Nailene Review

I had a quick sneak peak at my last post and realized that a more recent one was long overdue! While still in the midst of writing exams, several exciting things have happened, so why not celebrate them with a decent set of nails? And even better, why not share them on my blog?

I don't typically turn to artificial nails - I will rather just get them done, or mostly simply keep them natural. This time around, however, I decided to do so since the last few months have been too busy for some good pampering (very sad but true!).

I did some research beforehand, and was actually looking for different nails, also from Nailene. I popped into Clicks and unfortunately they were out of stock. I then came across Nailene Nail Studio Medium Length and decided to try them - definitely not a choice I regret!

Contents include:
24 Medium-sized nails
1 Buffer

I was a bit disappointed that it did not come with nail glue and that I had to buy this separately. But this isn't something big to complain about after the result I got from this nails! I bought a cheap, small bottle of nail glue, hoping that it would hold (as mentioned above, I don't use artificial nails regularly so I found it pointless buying top of the range glue just for one use).

Thoughts on these nails:
  • They are incredible! The first thing that caught my eye was the numbering system on the inner of the nail - in this way, I could easily match and correspond the nails of both hands to equal sizes and lengths without having to compare them one by one. These numbers are not even visible after applying the nails.
  • The sizes and lengths of the nails make them fit perfectly - they are comfortable, fit like a glove and I found them to even be longer than expected.
  • Their natural look makes them look so real! I got tons of compliments, asked if they are my nails and even asked where I had them done.
  • They are so incredibly easy to apply and do not break or peel off nails.
  • The durability and strength of these nails are incredible. After a week and a bit I still have them on and although not looking brand-spanking new, they still look extremely good!
  • They are affordable and I definitely got my moneys' worth - R84.95 at Clicks.

These are definitely a good enough excuse to have stunning nails in an instant! I would recommend these any day and although I am not a great fan of artificial nails, these made me pretty excited to try out different ranges from the brand.

I hope you enjoyed the post and let me know if you decide to try the out, or have already, and tell me what you think. See you soon!

Smell Gorgeous, Feel Gorgeous! | Yardley Review

I have been absent from my blog for long periods of time lately due to assignments, studying and exams (which are fast approaching!). However, in between all this, I thought it was definitely time for another blog post, even if it meant not to be as long as usual. With that, I decided to have a short Sunday study break and share my latest discovery that I am absolutely loving.

Why I generally prefer perfumes opposed to body sprays: I find them to be long-lasting since they are stronger and heavier than body sprays as well as the fact that they have somewhat a more pleasant smell, containing higher amounts of aromatic extracts and oils, as a result of their high concentration. I am not a great fan of body sprays simply because they are used in a similar way to spray-on deodorants, which I am also not crazy about.

BUT: I popped into Clicks and while browsing through the different products, I picked up Yardley’s Gorgeous Body Spray and immediately fell in love with the feisty floral scent. Gorgeous blends hints of mandarin and orange blossom with soft touches of jasmine and musk and the end-product is lovely! The bottle looks purple in the photos, and I am not too sure why, but it more of a goldy-colour, which makes it even more attention-drawing!

Yardley has a whole range of Gorgeous products, including a perfume (below).

Image is not my own.

The perfume has been described as long-lasting, feminine and sophisticated. I have not yet come across the perfume but definitely agree with this definition is terms of the spray. I love the scent (I can't stop smelling it while doing this review!) and definitely recommend you give it a try!

Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you next time!

Blossoming in Spring | Lifestyle

Spring is here and I couldn't be happier! As much as I love the season, I've been relatively absent from the blog since workload at university is nothing but increasing (so I apologize for that!). I won't be posting too much for the next two months, but I promise to try my best to post as much as I can.

However, a switch in seasons always branches to a switch in a variety of other elements, blossoming in their own, unique way. This is something that I love about such seasonal change, and I can't wait to share more about it below!

I have never been a person to like the idea of winter and what comes with it, namely cold, rain and wind. I see winter having only two purposes: perfect for a good cup of coffee while doing some work indoors & is even better for some blankets, yummy food and a couple of good movies. Nonetheless, my love for spring and summer especially is evidently due to my passion for nature and excitement to have some fun in the sun!

Spring, to me, is absolutely incredible because:

1. It symbolizes new beginnings and a whole new perspective on life. The beauty of blossoming on bare branches should be incredibly inspiring in itself; not only in terms of nature, but also when applied to oneself; ones individual success and well-being.

2. It is yet another excuse for a new promotion of fashion, and different forms of interpretation of it thereafter. I love to see how people embrace the different seasons through physical aspects, including clothing, makeup, shoes and accessories.

3. One of my absolute favourites: it inspires me to lead a healthy life. A healthy lifestyle should be lived no matter what the month, season or even year. It is, nevertheless, easier to find myself indulging in yummy foods and engaging in less and less physical activity as the days get colder. Excuses are excuses, and those are definitely examples of such; however, it is a tendency I seem to unfortunately follow each year. I find that spring helps me overcome this. It allows me to want to do more; be more. It inspires me to embrace healthy living, finding myself eating many more kinds of fruit and salads every day.

4. The beautiful weather is another favourite! As I've mentioned above, I love to be outdoors. I value experience over materialistic aspects and in my mind, some of the best kinds of experience happen outside. I love the sun, the heat, the beach. Sunny, warm weather puts me in the best of moods and makes me want to live every moment to the best of my abilities!

I am so super excited that the 1st of September has finally arrived, and that warmer weather is bound to come super soon! I would love to embrace some cute spring clothes and engage in summery activities, but that cannot be done just yet since the weather in the Cape is still in a little bit of winter mode. With that, I'm holding fingers that spring mode can kick in as soon as possible, and when it does, my Instagram account will be covered in photos, I'm sure.

Until then, I hope you've enjoyed reading this post. Let me know what your favourite season is and why, and even better, what you love to do most in summer. Thanks for reading this. See you soon!
